a word about the SLC and glenbard underground

Written by SMARTYR on Saturday, 12/7/2002

I just wanted to get out there and dispell any negative connotations surorunding the SLC(student liberation collective) and The Glenbard underground as I am active in both and see every day the negative connotations that surround us.
We are not anarchists or communists or anything else that falsely stirs up negative ideas in your head. We as the slc are simply a group of students aimed at giving forth information to the public they might not get from their 10 o'clock news. The only thing you might not be used to is that we run of a consensus basis. We want people to realize that the world around them is not always as it is presented to them. we specifically said in our points of unity that we do not subscribe to a political, religious or philisophical idealogy. we have refused to lable ourselves. We have bigger goals in mind than pissing people off. we are in some cases trying to make people aware, or maybe rally behind a cause, but in general we are trying to get yuou to open your eyes to the wrongs being committed in the world around you. we are not aimed at saying that this sucks and this is a lie unless we have fact to back it up. Our goals are not to alienate people however, some people will be offended or alienated by our ideas and what we do. but this cannot be help. If you look at what we say objectively and with an open mind, and you will find we're not full of crap. we have valid ideas and points you should at least consider and pay attention to. You may not agree with our interpretations of the facts but you at least need to know these facts exist.
I realize here that I am doing something dangerous here by speaking about a collective run on a consesnus. I appologixe to any members who disagree with my article. these are purely my interpretations of a group member from the get-go. I do not speak on the behalf of either the SLC or the Glenbard underground however i am heavily involved in both.
